Once you've printed your PDF sewing pattern at home, the final step is assembling the pages. Refer to the blog post if you missed it: How to print a PDF sewing pattern.
Don't worry—it's much easier than it looks! A few minutes of cutting and taping is all you need and you'll have a full-size sewing pattern ready for your use.
1. ORGANIZE YOUR PAGES
Follow the assembly guide included with your pattern to position each page correctly.
- Letters (A, B, C...) indicate the horizontal rows.
- Numbers (1, 2, 3...) indicate the position of each page within a row.
2. PREPARE THE PAGES
- Option 1: Trim the edges
Using scissors or a paper trimmer, cut along the designated trim lines.
You only need to trim two adjoining sides of each page (usually the right and bottom edges). This allows the pages to overlap neatly without adding extra bulk.
- Option 2: Fold the edges
You only need to trim two adjoining sides of each page (usually the right and bottom edges).
3. MATCH THE ALIGNMENT MARKS
Assemble the pages in order, starting with Row A (A1, A2, A3...), then continue with Row B, Row C, and so on.
Align the star symbols between adjoining pages so they match perfectly.
4. TAPE THE PAGES TOGETHER
Use clear tape to secure the overlapping pages.
It's often easiest to assemble the pages one row at a time, then join the completed rows together. This keeps everything organized and makes handling the pattern much simpler.
5. CUT OUT YOUR SIZE
Once your pattern is fully assembled, locate your size using the size chart included with the instructions.
If your pattern includes multiple sizes, you can:
- Cut directly along your size line, or
- Trace your size onto pattern paper to preserve the original pattern for future use.
Your PDF sewing pattern is now assembled and ready to use.
